The 2023 Radical Innovation competition attracted more than 100 entries spanning two distinct categories. After careful deliberation, the esteemed panel of judges selected two professionals and two students as finalists in each category. The competition proved to be highly competitive in both the project and product categories, with noteworthy Runner-Up entries including "SPINHOUS" by Joel Mbala-Nkanga from Populous, "Cross-Over Hotel" by Adelina Khabibullina and Valeria Peregudova, students from TiArch Studio at Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering, and "StoreX" by Sergei Mamedrzaev and Ragib Veliev from StoreXapp. The jurors were particularly impressed by the innovative designs and sophisticated presentations submitted by all three Runner-Up participants.

sPINHOUS

JOEL MBALA-NKANGA, POPULOUS

SPINHOUS offers a revolutionary mobile hotel experience for adventurous travelers, providing luxury and convenience while transporting guests to remote and untouched landscapes worldwide.

“The dream of being safe and secure in the comfort of your own room, while being surrounded by the majesty of nature is at the heart of the SPINHOUS concept. The potential to experience breathtaking vistas not from a distance and within a large hotel, but up-close from within or near your own mobile guestroom is a unique and potentially groundbreaking idea.” – James Woods

CROSS-OVER HOTEL

ADELINA KHABIBULLINA AND VALERIA PEREGUDOVA TiARCH STUDIO, KAZAN STATE UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE

The Cross-Over Hotel aims to address the challenges posed by urban population growth and environmental degradation by proposing to utilize the airspace over bodies of water for development using a universal bridge system, thus preserving land resources, enhancing city life, and potentially boosting tourism while reducing construction costs.

“We've seen hotels built on a bridge structure but we have not seen hotels built as part of a bridge, it's an extremely innovative concept that begs the question as to why all sorts of real estate uses couldn't be developed as part of this reclaimed real estate”. – Michael Medzigian
